“Come down and become a part of the Southern Comfort Family”

We have decades of fishing the waters of Islamorada. We now have  our new Southern Comfort, a 48 foot, Custom Carolina Built, Tournament Sportfisherman.

"A family business, where everyone is treated as family”

 Meet the Family

Capt ‘Big’ Rich (retired)

CG License: 6 passenger, 30 ton

After spending four years in the Navy during the Korean War, Big Rich married his High School sweetheart and bought his first boat in 1954.  “I began sportfishing in 1960 never considering that almost 50 years later I’d still be involved in the business, with not only both my sons, but my granddaughter as well”.

Capt Richie

CG License: Masters, 100 ton, 200 mile

Capt. Richie started mating for his dad at age 11.  He acquired is Masters Coast Guard License at age 19.  “We’re incredibly blessed to all share the same passion and love for sportfishing. We try hard to share that passion with our clients each day.  I believe that is what has kept us close as a family and successful as a sportfishing business for all this time”.

Capt Rob

CG License: Masters, 100 ton, 200 mile

Capt. Rob also began his career working for his dad and attained his Masters Coast Guard License at age 20.  Aside from working with the family on the Southern Comfort, he was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to work with two of the most knowledgeable and revered Sportfishing Captains in Islamorada during the 1980’s and 90’s, Captain Joe Herzog and Captain Socko Gorenflo.  He was the Captain of Socko’s beloved charter boat , Sea Byrd, for many years before deciding to head up north.

Kathleen

“I was born in Islamorada and raised around boats just as my Dad and Uncle were. I’ve just turned eighteen and plan on taking my U.S. Coast Guard license examination next year while attending the Florida Institute of Technology, concentrating on Coral Reef Ecosystems.  Hope to see you on the boat during my summer breaks”.

 A fully accommodating Sportfishing experience

If you have never been to Islamorada before or you are a regular visitor, at the time of booking your trip on the Southern Comfort we will offer to send you brochures of the local motels and resorts, some of which offer discounts when sailing with us.  In addition, we will send you menu lists from a few of our local restaurants for your lunch selections.  Contact us after selecting your motel or resort accommodation and your lunch and beverage selections for the day(s) you will be sailing with us. We will book your room(s), send you the conformation dates, pick up your selected lunch and beverages the morning of your trip(s) and have everything waiting onboard for you the day of your trip(s).  All we want you to do is arrive safely and not concern yourself with anything other than having a good time.

At the end of the day we will clean and seal your catch to take home.  If desired, at each days end we will take a selected portion of your catch to the restaurant of your choice for your evening dinner. Just let your waiter know you are clients of the Southern Comfort and how you would like your meal prepared or ask for their recommendation.  If sailing multiple days with us, we will freeze your catch and it will wait in our freezer for your departure back home.
